When designing the shelves, Martino Gamper took inspiration from the records themselves. One of the things he noticed, was how records are usually displayed spine out, yet you usually tend to remember the cover of a record, rather than the spine. He therefore decided to design the shelves at an oblique angle, so that the covers of the vinyls face the viewer.
