John Pawson decided that what he needed was a family of elements that could work in the house in the country that he was currently remodelling for his family. He commissioned Studio Areti to explore the things you touch and use every day – things that are moments, like switching on a light and opening a door.
His 'wish' was for a rethinking of some of the ordinary elements that he would need but that are rarely satisfactory – a door, shelving, hooks and a light switch. With the door, for example, he was interested in the idea that it should in some way indicate that it was there to be opened.
