Saddle Chair
The Saddle Chair was designed in 1974 for the Neptune Hotel (now Heritance Ayurveda) in Beruwela, 60 km from Colombo. Phantom Hands’ re-edition retains Bawa’s original proportions while updating materials for durability and sustainability. The frame is crafted from American red oak, chosen for its strength, environmental credentials, and ability to take color. The wood is lightly brushed for a tactile feel and painted with an eco-friendly, water-based finish.

x+l 14 Full Circle Coffee Table
The x+l 14 Full Circle Coffee Table is designed by Amsterdam based design duo x+l. The geometric elements of the Table are inspired by the architecture and furniture designed for the city of Chandigarh in the 1950s and 60s . The grains of wood on the tabletop are parallel to one set of legs (and perpendicular to the other), a deliberate design element specified by x+l.

Designer: x+l
Materials/Finish: American red oak finished in a teak stain
Dimensions: H 26.0 / D 114.0 / W 114.0 cm

x+l 02 Room Divide
The Room Divider/Folding Screen was designed by x+l as a meaningful way to upcycle offcuts from furniture production that would otherwise be disposed as ‘waste’. Each screen is unique and has slightly different blocks depending on the size of offcuts available. This version is made with American cherry.

Designer: x+l
Materials/Finish: American cherry finished with hard wax oil

Dining Table
The Dining Table emerged from a collaborative project between Australian designer Adam Markowitz and Phantom Hands, facilitated by AHEC and the Rossi Group in 2024. Key to the design approach was the idea of curvature and wood bending, with bent lamination as the primary bending technique. The wood is sliced into thin veneers, bent into shape and glued back together resulting in curved shapes that are inherently strong. The table is deceptively simple in structure, with two facing half cylinders forming the base. American red oak was chosen for the table for its warmth, strength in this structurally challenging application, and consistency of its grain/color toning which meant that veneers could be readily matched.

Bench
The Bench emerged from a collaborative project between Australian designer Adam Markowitz and Phantom Hands, facilitated by AHEC and the Rossi Group in 2024. It was designed as a seating complement to the Dining Table. Like the Dining Table, the bench looks to explore the strength of curves - both the seat and the legs are extremely thin, and would never be able to take the structural loads if they were flat. The curvature and laminating process allows the bench to become strong with minimal material. American red oak was chosen for the table for its warmth, strength in this structurally challenging application, and consistency of its grain/color toning which meant that veneers could be readily matched.
