The Wish List
The Wish List is a unique collaborative project between some of the world’s best-known design names and up-and-coming designers. It brings together the best in contemporary design and craftsmanship with an exploration of the properties of American hardwoods.
This publication tells the story of Endless Stair, a towering Escher-like structure that was erected outside Tate Modern in September 2013 for the London Design Festival. Made from American tulipwood CLT, it was an exciting exploration of space and form that also pioneered the use of a new material, and acted as a research project. It was designed by dRMM and engineered by Arup.

Out of the Woods - The Creation of 12 Hardwood Chairs
This publication documents a unique collaboration between AHEC, the Royal College of Art (RCA), Benchmark Furniture and PE International in which 12 sets of students designed chairs, manufactured them, considered their life cycle analyses and exhibited the finished work at the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the London Design Festival 2012. The project is not only an extraordinary flowering of creativity, but also addresses some of the environmental issues that will face the designers and makers of the future.
This publication is currently only available in English.
Out of the Woods: Adventures of 12 Hardwood Chairs
This book is composed of many different stories – written, pictorial, fictional and factual – that tell the adventures of twelve hardwood chairs. Drawn from many different sources, these stories skip through time and space, to describe the chairs’ real histories and project their possible futures. Visions of their futures are conjured by some of the UK’s most exciting writers and poets, with accompanying photography by Petr Krejci. A pictorial timeline, by the book designers Livia Lima and Fabienne Hesse, illustrates the chairs’ eventful lives in service to people and even hints their eventual demise.
The book is a limited edition. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in obtaining a copy.
The stories are available as an iPad app by searching 'Out of the Woods' in the app store.
